Product description
Alfalfa seeds are offered for planting enquiries to establish a fodder crop. Buyers should specify the variety, intended growing region and seed-quality requirements. Planting seed quality must be described using a lot-specific test report and any required certification.
This listing concerns planting seed. It does not describe seed for human consumption or sprouting. Required variety, certification and export eligibility must be confirmed for the destination.
Specification guide
Use these parameters to tell us what you need. They are not claims about current stock.
| Parameter | What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Listed quality options | Single-year quality; Multi-year quality | Commercial quality options confirmed by Shiva Exim. Confirm the variety, intended growing region and lot test report separately. |
| Variety & identity | Required variety and intended growing region | Variety suitability and identity should be confirmed before ordering. |
| Germination (%) | Minimum target and required test date | Measures the proportion producing normal seedlings under the test conditions. |
| Physical purity (%) | Minimum pure seed; limits for inert matter and other seeds | Distinguishes the intended planting seed from unwanted material. |
| Moisture (%) | Maximum acceptable moisture | Helps buyers assess storage and shipment suitability. |
| Treatment status | Untreated or specified treatment; required declaration | Distinguishes seed treatment requirements for planting. |
| Certification & tests | Required certificate, test report and destination requirements | Certification is discussed for the specific lot; it is not assumed. |
| Hard seed (%) | Reported hard-seed fraction and how it is included in the test result | Read normal germination and hard seed separately before comparing reports. |
| Other crop & weed seeds | Reported other-seed content and any required species screening | A physical-purity percentage alone does not identify every unwanted seed. |
| Coating / inoculation | Raw or coated preference; coating or inoculation declaration if applicable | Bag weight and seed-quality results should be interpreted on the declared basis. |
| Lot identity & test date | Lot number, sample reference, laboratory and date of analysis | Connects the quality report to the material proposed for shipment. |
| Crop year & origin | Required harvest year and country or region of origin | Identifies the age and source of the lot. |
| Packing & quantity | Bag / container type, net weight and order quantity | Final packing is agreed with the quotation. |
| Testing & documents | Required analysis, sample and destination documentation | Required reports or certificates must be confirmed for the specific lot. |

How much seed is needed for sowing?
Reference quantities for the stated growing system. Confirm a local recommendation before ordering planting seed.
| Detail | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Reference seed quantity | 20 kg/hectare (approximately 8.1 kg/acre) |
| Sowing system | Lucerne grown for fodder; the cited Tamil Nadu Agricultural University guide describes line sowing at 25 cm row spacing. |
| How to apply this reference | An Indian extension reference for establishing a fodder stand. Confirm the rate for your variety, growing region, sowing method and seed treatment or coating. Single-year and multi-year commercial labels do not establish separate sowing rates. |
Request a current, lot-specific germination and physical-purity report, the test date, variety identity and treatment or coating status. For alfalfa, also confirm the reported hard-seed percentage. Physical purity alone does not establish planting suitability. Seed rate is a cultivation guideline, not a minimum order quantity or a yield guarantee.
Agronomic reference: TNAU — Lucerne fodder crop production ↗. Checked 22 October 2026. Acre figures are rounded conversions using 1 hectare ≈ 2.471 acres. These Indian reference rates are not destination-specific recommendations.
